By choosing a particular character as the player Chief Executive Officer, a player can eliminate that particular AI from being a competitor because the game will choose the AI(s) for a scenario from the remaining 7 characters. Barclay and Tess are aggressive AIs with patents and cures; choosing one as your CEO can eliminate the possibility that they will be in competition.
